We'd like to congratulate our own ENL Teacher Amy Decker for being named Mid-State Mid-State Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (RBERN) at OCM BOCES’s Teacher of the Month. The Mid-State RBERN district includes more than a dozen counties from across the state, stretching as far west as Livingston, and as far north as Jefferson. Throughout her tenure at Maine-Endwell, Mrs. Decker has become a familiar face to our English Language Learners. Through her hard work and dedication, she's helped our English as a New Language Department grow from a couple dozen students to more than 80 in a few short years.
Decker continuously goes above and beyond to ensure our ELL's are celebrated, whether it's working closely with families to bring cultural lessons into our schools, or hosting our ever-growing Cultural Night, Decker is a shining example of Spartan Spirit.
Tanya Rosado-Barringer, Executive Director and Coordinator of the Mid-State RBERN released the following statement:
Dear Amy,
On behalf of Mid-State RBERN at OCM BOCES, it is with great pride and admiration that we congratulate you on being named Teacher of the Month for February 2025! Your dedication to your English Language Learners (ELLs) and their families at Maine-Endwell Central School District’s Maine Memorial Elementary School is nothing short of extraordinary
From the early days when you were the sole ENL teacher supporting fewer than 20 students to now leading a team of four educators serving nearly 80 multilingual learners, you have been an unwavering advocate, leader, and champion for your students and their families. Under your guidance, the ENL program at Maine-Endwell has grown into a robust academic and community-based support system, ensuring that every student and family has access to the resources they need to succeed.
Your commitment extends beyond the classroom—you leave no need unmet. Whether it's helping families navigate job applications, college entrance requirements, or legal barriers, you go above and beyond to ensure they are welcomed, supported, and treated with dignity and respect. Your willingness to seek solutions, collaborate with professionals, and empower families speaks volumes about your dedication.
This year, you initiated a professional development partnership with another school, creating a space for educators to share strategies and learn from each other—a testament to your leadership and vision for strengthening ELL education across communities. Additionally, your annual Cultural Fair has grown into a highly anticipated community-wide celebration, bringing together families, students, and even university partners to highlight the rich diversity within your district. The event, featuring ethnic foods, student performances, and cultural presentations, has become so successful that it had to be relocated to accommodate the growing participation.
Your ability to build strong relationships with families, foster a culture of inclusivity, and inspire your colleagues is truly remarkable. Every family has your personal number, a simple yet powerful testament to your unwavering support. Your leadership has not only transformed your ENL program but has also created an environment where teachers embrace diversity and celebrate the unique contributions of every student.
Amy, your passion, advocacy, and commitment to your students and their families embody the very best of what it means to be an educator. We are honored to recognize you as Mid-State RBERN at OCM BOCES’s Teacher of the Month and celebrate your impact on the lives of so many.
With gratitude and admiration,
Tanya Rosado-Barringer
