A group of students from the middle school are putting their coding and computer science skills to the test. On Tuesday, four teams presented their work to a set of judges as part of the Broome-Tioga BOCES App Challenge.
Students were tasked with creating health-centric applications that solved a problem. They shot and edited video commercials, put together a "pitch" presentation, and spent time introducing themselves, along with their coded applications.
Andrew and Ben Appleman created an app called MENtal Health, a mental health app for men. It allows users to schedule exercises and meals around specific agendas, and includes a calorie, sleep and food tracking.

Nylah Burghardt-Bush, Lilly Rice and Levi Shoudy presented their app, HelloMello, which helps ease anxiety and other mental health challenges. Users have the ability to press buttons for meditation, running, garbage pickup and sensory games, all with the goal of improving mental health and overall well-being. "Steaks," similar to those on SnapChat and other social media platforms allow users to compete to top the leaderboard.

Adalyn White, Garynne Rosato, Riley Doolittle and Charlotte Tonkoski created an app known as Happy and Healthy. Their creation allows users to find food options, wellness centers, local doctors and dinner recipes, all in one app. It's meant to be a "one-stop-shop" for your overall health needs. Anyone using the app may cater each section to fit their individual needs.
