Stroke by stroke, color by color, students in Natalie Mastroiani's Studio Art Class are bringing the outside world to life through paint. This week, students were tasked with filling their canvases with a fruit or vegetable from still life using an acrylic medium. From pears to pumpkins, each project drew from a different inspiration.
Cayden Brown painted a pear with two cherries.
The Maine-Endwell senior is now working on her "senior board," a project that often takes the entire semester, culminating with work being shown off to the public at an upcoming art show. You may not expect it, but this is a practice that's fairly new to Cayden.
"I haven't gotten the opportunity to paint a lot so far in high school because this is the first painting class I've taken but painting is probably my favorite medium," said Cayden Brown, Senior at the high school.
Cayden is working on a "two in one" painting of herself when she was a child, holding a fish she'd just won at the carnival. The inside of the bag will depict her as a teenager in modern day. She's currently in the process of sketching out her work, with some early painting underway.
"It's really nice because it's how I express myself. I spent a long time trying to come up with this idea," said Brown.
We look forward to following up with Cayden and all of our students in the fine arts to check out their projects throughout the year!
